Cartoons Outsell Words

Business writing guru Ann Wylie cites
research that proves cartoons outperform words. Many studies show that if we
want to communication more clearly we should use more comics, cartoons and
storyboards and less text. Research demonstrates that students learn vocabulary
better, hospital patients understand wound care better and parents absorb more
information about polio vaccines when cartoons are used.
Southwest
Airlines used a cartoon strip to explain company financials to employees. A
hospital's monthly safety moment column is a comic strip. A major insurance
company uses comic strip characters in all its marketing. Think about it.
Cartoons are fun. They're easy to read. And good ones combine cool artwork with
crisp clear language. So sell more by creating the next Dagwood, Homer or
Charlie Brown.
