Writing Short Isn't Always A Virtue

How many times have you heard that your business
writing must be brief? To put it briefly, that advice is wrong.
Make
every word count. Use the least amount of words you need. The best message is
the one that gives you the most meaning in the fewest words. But this describes
writing that is economical, not necessarily brief.
Direct mail letters
are often long but successful ones waste no words. Many of the best websites are
swimming in deep, long, luxurious written content. If you have a complicated
message or argument you may need a lot of words. That's okay. Don't
sacrifice clarity for the sake of brevity. Write as short as possible. But no
shorter.
